Its almost seven months back when the executive lounge was inaugurated at Chandigarh Railway Station but the passengers cannot avail the services of the executive lounge. The railway board is yet to include Chandigarh in the list of stations to start the facility. The executive lounge was inaugurated by the MP Kirron Kher on 3 October, 2016.
The railway board recently approved a list of 50 stations where executive lounges will be managed by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), but the list didn’t include Chandigarh. As a result, the executive lounge here was not available for public use as the Ambala division, under which Chandigarh station falls, does not have the staff to maintain it on a regular basis.
According to sources, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation regional director shared that they have received the list of the stations where they have to manage the lounges. Though they have received a request from the Ambala division to manage the executive lounge in Chandigarh, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation would not be able to start the work as the board has not given its approval. He expected that the next list of the railway board will feature Chandigarh railway station for the executive lounge. The stations where they will manage the lounges included Jammu, Amristar, Kalka, Ludhiana and Jalandhar. The executive lounge will have facilities such as easy chair, bathing, towel kit, buffet and LED TV for passengers. But it doesn’t have the provision of AC.
To avail the services of executive lounge at Chandigarh railway station the passenger has to pay Rs. 150 for two hours. For buffet, coupons will be available on payment.
The lounge at the railway station is lying locked these days. Executive passengers wait in the normal rest rooms at the Chandigarh railway station.
