Chandigarh begins five-day voter enrolment drive
Chandigarh’s election machinery has begun a special five-day enrolment drive to help eligible residents whose names are missing from the electoral roll, including young and first-time voters. The exercise runs from October 7 to October 11 and is aimed at making it easier for people to check their electoral status and seek inclusion where required.
According to The Times of India, Booth Level Officers will be available at polling stations during the drive from 10 am to 3 pm. Officials will also undertake door-to-door verification to identify eligible electors who may have been left out of the final roll.
Focus on young and first-time voters
The campaign gives particular attention to young citizens who are becoming eligible to vote for the first time. Electoral Literacy Clubs and SVEEP activities are being used to reach this group and explain the importance of registration and participation in elections.
The initiative follows publication of the Final Photo Electoral Roll-2026 on September 22. That makes the current drive an opportunity for eligible residents to identify omissions rather than wait until a future revision cycle.
Residents can check their electoral status and seek guidance from election staff. The election machinery has also pointed citizens towards the ECINET platform and voter helpline 1950 for voter-service assistance.
Why verification matters
Electoral-roll errors can affect a person’s ability to vote even when they otherwise meet the eligibility requirements. A dedicated enrolment window gives residents a clear period in which to check their details and raise issues with election officials.
The door-to-door component is significant because some eligible residents may not actively visit election offices or polling stations. By taking verification closer to households, officials can identify omissions earlier and guide residents towards the appropriate remedy.
What residents should do
Eligible Chandigarh residents should use the October 7–11 window to verify their voter details. First-time voters and people who recently became eligible should pay particular attention to whether their names are included. Residents can visit polling stations during the stated 10 am–3 pm period, use available online voter services, or call 1950 for assistance.
The drive is a voter-registration and verification exercise rather than an election-day activity. Residents should check their details well before any future polling so avoidable enrolment problems do not arise at the last moment.
How the drive can help residents
The enrolment exercise is particularly useful for residents who have moved within Chandigarh, young people who recently became eligible, and households that have not checked their electoral details after the latest roll was published. Keeping voter information current can also help reduce confusion when elections are announced. Residents should use official election channels for any correction or inclusion request and keep any acknowledgement or application details provided by officials for their records.
Why it matters
A complete and accurate electoral roll is essential for eligible citizens to exercise their voting rights. For Chandigarh’s young and first-time voters, the five-day drive provides a timely opportunity to verify registration and correct omissions.
