Sukhna Lake Chandigarh

The Sukhna Lake is highly visited place in Chandigarh by visiting tourists and locals as well. This is ideal spot for morning walk and for joggers. This is 3 km² lake and it was created in 1958 by damming the Sukhna Choe. Sukhna Lake was created by Le Corbusier and the Chief Engineer P L Verma. On the south side of Sukhna lake is Golf course on the west of it is famous Rock Garden of Chandigarh which was built by Nek Chand. The main source of water in the lake is rain and seasonal stream which drops down from Shivalik Hills.

The major employment sector of chandigarh is three Governments; Chandigarh Administration, Punjab and Haryana government. Therefor you will notice that Chandigarh’s significant percentage consists of either people working for one of these governments or wither have retired from these. The another section is retired Armed Forces personals as well. Because of this, Chandigarh is often called a “Pensioner’s Paradise”.

With a vision to make the sport of Rowing popular in Chadigarh and in its neighbring states, the Chandigarh Rowing Association (CRA) came in to existence in November 1981. The CRA got its first Bronze medal in the kitty in 1985 National games which was won by Rajiv Sharma and Varinder Singh in coxless pair race and rowing was the only event which was held at Chandigarh out of New Delhi.

Over the time this place has developed as a best tourists spot in Chandigarh and a spot for hang out as well. There are many small to big food shops/spots which has variety of food items. There are several fun activities which include rides of kids, Bull fight, boating both foot propelled and with oars.
